  1. In almost every instance someone wearing a niqab will attract twice as much attention, and glares of the public, compared to an average person walking down the street (in a european country). Surely this defeats the purpose of observing purdah in the first place?

If observed in the right manner, it acts a protection. However what is the right manner? there are many conflicting answers, of course.

Main thing is that one should give consideration to the society they're living in; dress and behave accordingly ("jaisa des, waisa bhes") without crossing their moral boundaries.
Surely, Allah is all seeing, All Knowing.

Probably the French believe that theirs will now be a more racially tolerant society. It might be, but at the same time the ban could have the opposite effect. Time will tell..

One thing's for sure though, there will always be those, who will stand by their beliefs till the end.

  4. the topic has many aspects to argue. If the French government has banned covering the face to protect people from rogue elements that can be threat to society by hiding their identity then i feel they have the right to do so and are justified. On the other hand, people who believe in covering their faces as a religious duty must surely be perturbed due to the restriction.
I feel we need to understand each others point of view and respect it too but complexity of human thoughts leads us to conflicts and controversies.

  6. I'd just like to say, it doesn't effect me one bit what the French have done with the imposition of the ban. But what really has happened is, and it gets to me most, an eye opener to how really fascist the French are. The proclamation of giving freedom to each individual to follow his faith as he chooses, belies far from the truth.

I would have no qualms regarding, a non-muslim countries right to bring into legislation this ban, but i have a major issue when you call yourself liberals and champions of freedom.

By curtailing articles of clothing an individual may be allowed to wear just goes to show the degree of their paranoia and the lack of freedom one has to freely practice their religious beliefs. Completely contrary the picture they paint to the world of being liberal and tolerant to all faiths.
